Heminingway - Chapter Heading

I am a great fan of Hemingway and especially this particular poem. Although it is short, the poem is harmoniously connected and characterises the complex balance between night and day.

Every word in this poem makes sense and everything is positioned in such a way that all becomes ingeniously simple. The mentioning of "Shivering home to pray" and "danced to devil's tunes" is symbolic for the existence of Western religions. The Religion which forms the balance between good and bad, night and day or humankind and God.....

Chapter Heading

For we have thought the longer thoughts
And gone the shorter way.
And we have danced to devil's tunes
Shivering home to pray;
To serve one master in the night,
Another in the day.
